Kathleen Hartman Reitz, 87, is singing in the heavenly choir after after passing away early morning May 1, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, John R Reitz, in June 2020. Born in Shartlesville, PA, she was the daughter of Allen & LaRue (Spatz) Hartman.
Kathleen completed her BS (1969) and MS (1975) degrees in Library Science at Kutztown State College while raising three children. She was an elementary librarian for the Wilson School District working in several elementary schools before becoming the librarian at Cornwall Terrace Elementary when It opened in 1975. She motivated and inspired children to read by hosting authors, illustrators and reading contests. Clifford the Big Red Dog, the Cat in the Hat and other book characters were frequent visitors. After retiring in 1995, she volunteered as a docent at Reading Public Museum and at West Lawn Wyomissing Hills Library.
She is survived by a brother, Bryan Hartman (husband of Gayle Hartman), Durham, NC as well as her children, Jeffrey Reitz, Bear, DE; Rebecca Heimbach (wife of Karl Heimbach), Mechanicsburg, PA; and Judith Trump (wife of Drew Trump), Sinking Spring, PA. She loved being grandmother to Valerie Trump, NYC, and Andrea Gansor (wife of Phillip Gansor), Lafayette Hill, PA. She is also survived by her favorite cousin, Alletta Schadler, Fredericksburg, PA. Kathleen was also predeceased by a brother Allen (husband of Darlene Hartman) who was born on her 16th birthday.
She was a longtime active member of Advent Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir for over 50 years. In lieu of flowers, she requested memorial gifts be made to Advent Lutheran Church or West Lawn Wyomissing Hills Public Library.
