Kathryn May (Eisenberg) Hafer, 97, died at The Highlands at Wyomissing on September 4, 2018, where she has resided since 2005.

Born in Shillington, Kathryn was the daughter of the late Clyde and Stella (Bender) Eisenberg. Kathryn graduated from Shillington High School in 1939 and then from Temple University with a degree in Dental Hygiene and went on to work at Community General Hospital in Reading.

Married to James L Hafer, she helped manage his West Reading business, James L. Hafer & Company, Distinctive Home Decorations, until his death in 1977. She later was employed by Bauer, Kegerise & Company accounting firm.

Kathryn lived in Lincoln Park most of her life moving there with her parents and brother when she was eight. During World War II, she lived in Bowmansville and worked at the Bollman Hat Factory. After the war she and her husband established their own residence in Lincoln Park. She was an active member of Lincoln Park Community United Methodist Church, where she was the church treasurer for more than 15 years and participated in the church choirs and many social and outreach groups at the church.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Heidi (Hafer) Ferrar Clouser, in 2010, and her brother, Dr. H Grant Eisenberg in 1986.

Surviving is her daughter, Kris (Hafer) Wright, wife of David Wright, Cumru Township and 4 grandchildren: Cris Ann (Ferrar) Messler, Kelly (Ferrar) Palumbo both of New Jersey; Megan (Wright) DiPiano, Downingtown; and James Wright, Reading; and 6 great-grandchildren. Also, one nephew and several nieces, including Carol (Eisenberg) Miller, Temple and Cathy (Eisenberg) Higgins, Pittsford, NY.

The family sincerely thanks the entire staff of the Skilled Nursing Center of The Highlands for their compassion and expertise in caring for Kathryn since 2012.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, September 23, 2018, at 3 p.m. in Lincoln Park Community United Methodist Church, 1 Carlisle Ave, Reading, PA 19609 with the Rev. KyungMo Koo officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. in the church. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her honor can be made to the church memorial fund at the above address. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., 739 Penn Ave., is in charge of arrangements.
