Obituary for Kimberly Janice Longlott
Kimberly Jan Longlott passed away on March 29th at Reading Hospital after a short battle with cancer.
Kim was born in Reading on October 17, 1956, a daughter of Janis Longlott, and the late Larry Longlott.
Kim is survived by her husband Brian Kunkelman and daughter Mallory Fredericks.
Kim was a 1974 Wyomissing High School graduate. After 2 years at Kutztown University she moved to Narberth, PA and opened a custom framing business which she ran for 10 years until moving back to Berks County and opening a framing business in Wyomissing for 2 years.
Kim graduated with a degree in History from Albright College, earning the Jacob Albright Scholar Award and Dean’s Achievement. She went on to earn her Masters degree at Penn State in Art History and Museum Studies.
With a passion for American and Berks County History, she began work at the Berks History Center. While working at BHC she organized and curated many events, fund raising, and exhibits. Her most passionate project was in the reuniting of many Berks County musicians through the creation of the Magical Mystery Tour event.
When not working, Kim’s second home was in the sunshine of Florida, spending much treasured time with her best friend and “Flip Out Twin”, the late Sheilah Winshurst, along with the rest of her family. She loved art, film, and music most often found admiring the works of Salvador Dali, Quentin Tarantino, and Paul McCartney.
She was also an avid animal lover. She enjoyed riding and going to shows with her horses, Rose and Woody. She loved Bearded Collies and raised 4 along with many other dogs and cats. Her Beardie Hamilton is with her daughter Mallory in Philadelphia, per her wishes.
Kim was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, most specifically a lifetime supporter of the Flyers (aka The Broad Street Bullies) and the Phillies and their Phanatic. Her daughter Mallory and her dog Hamilton will continue her fandom in the heart of South Philly. Her kind, loving, cynically funny, fierce and courageous soul will be greatly missed. We love you.
