Obituary for Kurt Paul Klaus

Kurt P. Klaus, 69, of Douglassville, loving husband of Sue (Wassiluk) Klaus, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, February 19, 2023.

Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Chuck and Peg (Dindino) Klaus.

Along with his wife of 44 years, he is survived by his twin brother Karl Klaus, husband of Terri (Schur) Klaus.

He is the beloved father of two daughters, Jen Heffernan (wife of Kyle) of Pottstown, and Jess Breidenbach(wife of Matt) of Gilbertsville, and proud, fun-loving Papa to 6 grandchildren: Abby, Peyton and Hannah Breidenbach, and Zach, Evan and Nick Heffernan. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Mike Wassiluk (husband of Christine) of East Greenville, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kurt was a 1972 graduate of St. Pius X High School. He was employed by the Montgomery County Housing Authority for 37 years starting out as a maintenance mechanic and eventually working his way up as the Deputy Executive Director Physical Facilities.

He was also a well-known licensed taxidermist for 50 years.

Kurt was knowntofrequentlygive a relaxed sigh of contentment, then say, “Life is good.” He loved life and loved sharing it with those close to him. He enjoyed cheering for his grandchildren in their activities, always their biggest supporter and LOUDEST fan. He loved spending time at the beach with family, acting like the big kid among the grandkids, swimming far out in the ocean and enthusiastically collecting “critters” and seashells.

He loved that his grandkids shared his passion for fishing, shooting bow, shooting BB guns, kayaking and canoeing, spending countless hours together trying to match his skill. He looked forward to hunting, fishing, and trapping trips to his cabin in Tioga County. He took great pride in his home and the beautiful landscaping he created and maintained. Many days or nights you could find him in front of a bonfire or hanging with his buddies downstairs, always with a pack of Avanti cigars and a cold beer in hand.

Above all, he treasured his family and friends more than anything in the world. He was a true family man and friend who always told those he loved how he felt about them. He truly loved life, saw the beauty in all the small things, and taught others to do the same through his words and actions. He could be found helping and planning any project you can imagine. There’s nothing this man could not fix or make better.

Kurt was on-call at all times for anyone who needed him. He knew what needed to be done before you knew it yourself and he showed up on the front line ready to attack any problem with calm and expertise. He truly mastered how to live life to the fullest. Those of us who were fortunate enough to share it with him are very blessed and will carry on the example and lessons that endure.

A Celebration of Life/Service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023 at the Loft at Landis Creek, 765 N. Lewis Rd., Limerick. A Meet and Greet with the family will begin at 1 p.m. followed by a short service and luncheon.
