Obituary for Larry Darnell Brown

Larry Darnell Brown, known affectionately as “LB,” “Downtown Larry Brown,” and “Pretty Willie” to his grandfather, peacefully departed this life on February 24, 2024, at the age of 74, in the Pottstown Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

Born on February 20, 1950 in York County, Virginia, Larry's journey was one of faith, joy, and profound impact.

Larry's life was a tapestry of remarkable achievements and unwavering dedication to his passions. He was a proud graduate of Phoenixville High School. He excelled as a wrestler, a football coach, a softball player, and earned the esteemed title of state champion wrestler. However, it was in the roles of a devoted father and grandfather that Larry's legacy truly flourished.

A cherished member of private clubs FOE, St. Gabe’s, and the Firehouse, Larry found solace in the rhythm of his daily routines and the camaraderie of friends. With a talent for song, dance, and card games, he was known as the "Grill Master," whose legendary ribs and chicken brought delight to countless gatherings. Larry found joy in gardening, adored westerns, and fervently supported his beloved Philadelphia Eagles. His love extended to his cherished canine companions, Spirit, Brandy, and Coco Chanel.

Larry's generous spirit touched many lives as he mentored young men in the community and coached PAL football. He embodied integrity, warmth, and a magnetic charisma that left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Even in the face of health challenges, Larry's faith in God, strength, and resilience never wavered.

Larry was a dedicated employee at Graphic Packaging, where his commitment and hard work were evident to all. He had planned to retire in 2024, looking forward to new adventures and cherished time with loved ones.

Larry leaves behind a legacy of love that transcends generations. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Jessica Sykes, wife of Jymal Sykes Sr., and his adoring grandchildren, Allyana and Jymal Sykes Jr., along with his stepson Corey Beasley (wife Marshelle). He is also mourned by his brothers Alfred Brown (wife Diane), Johnie Mac Brown (Angel), and Jessie Brown, as well as his companion Tina, her son and grandchildren. Larry will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends including Clarence, Ozzie, Bill, Patti, Al, Carla, Mike, Sonny and many others.

Larry is now reunited in heaven with his beloved parents, George W. Brown Sr. and Frances E. Brown, his sisters Joy Lynn Ingram and Edna Louise Flagg, and his brother George W. Brown Jr. Though he has left this earthly realm, Larry's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rest peacefully, our dear Larry. Your memory will continue to inspire us, and your spirit will live on in our cherished memories.
