Leondina “Louise” Rosario (DiMatteo) Promutico, 88, formerly of Reading, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 in the care of the Mifflin Center. She was the loving widow of Francis H. “Frank” a.k.a “Sheriff” Promutico, who passed away in 2018. Born in Camden, NJ, Louise was a daughter of the late Angelo and Mary (Sorgino) DiMatteo.
Louise was a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, Reading. Her faith was very important to her and she loved being part of the Church community and participating in Church functions.
For ten years Louise worked in the Governor Mifflin Middle School's Cafeteria.
A devoted wife, mom, and mom-mom, Louise was the epitome of the heart of a home. She dedicated her life to building and caring for her family. A gracious hostess, Louise welcomed anyone (the more, the merrier) into her kitchen. Anyone that knew her could easily name something she was excellent at making, from homemade raviolis to ricotta cookies.
In addition to her kitchen creations, she was known for her joyful affect and big smile. She was happiest when those she loved were gathered around the table. Louise was also known to have a sweet tooth, and she was just as sweet as the desserts she enjoyed indulging in.
Louise loved all things Italian. She and Francis were proud of their Italian heritage, which they instilled in their children. Louise also loved music. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Elvis would bring a dance to her step and a smile to her face.
Our beloved Louise will be remembered for her kind and humble nature and infectious laugh. The values, recipes, and memories she left behind will be cherished and carried on by her family.
Her presence and steadfast guidance will be sorely missed by her children: Marc, husband of Louise Promutico, Selkirk, NY; Ricky, husband of Kim Promutico, Reading; Daniel Promutico, Southern Shores, NC; Teresa, wife of John Bonanno, Reading; Joseph, husband of Marcie Promutico, Reading; Chris, husband of Kathy Promutico, Reading; and Rebecca, wife of Jason Olszewski, Southern Shores, NC. She is also survived by her seventeen grandchildren: Rachel, Michael, Sarah, Amanda (Marc); Julian, Justin, Jevin (Ricky); Angela, Joseph, Ashley (Teresa); Briana, Joseph (Joe); Sophia, Isabella (Chris); Daniel, Anthony, Elena (Rebecca): six great grandchildren; and a sister, Philomena, widow of Walt Carr, who resides in Somerdale, NJ. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the apple of her eye; her “angels” as she referred to them. They were blessed to have her as their “Mom-mom” and now she is their angel.
Louise was predeceased by her brother, Danny DiMatteo, who is survived by his widow, JoAnn, of Berlin, NJ.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at the Mifflin Center for their attentiveness and care over the last two years.
Contributions in Louise’s memory may be offered to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 .
