Obituary for Lula Goodhart

Lula C. Goodhart, 91, of Wyomissing, passed away peacefully on Monday August 21, 2023, at 8:50 pm. She was the wife of the late Richard Goodhart who passed away in July 1997. Lula and Richard raised two children, Clifford and Despina, and she was a grandmother to two loving grandsons, Louis (Goodhart) and Daniel (Veilleux).

Born in Reading, Mrs. Goodhart was the daughter of the late Pantelis and Despina (Hadjipavlis) Carnoles. A 1949 graduate of Reading High School, she continued her education at McCann Business School. She worked as a Professional Secretary for various employers, and ultimately retired from Pratt & Whitney/United Technologies in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Together with her husband, Lula lived a life of adventure and cultivated relationships and a loving home all across the United States, including Virginia, New York, California, Kansas, Connecticut, and Florida. Following the loss of her husband, Lula moved back to her home state of Pennsylvania where she stayed until finally moving back to Florida to live near her daughter and son-in-law.

Throughout her life, Lula was a very faith-filled woman, a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, and an adored aunt. While she greatly valued her independence and enjoyed living independently for over 25 years, she cherished the last two years that she was able to live closer to her children. Nothing brought a bigger smile to Lula’s face or more joy to her heart than being able to spend time with her family, especially her grandsons. Lula also had an enormous love and affection for her nieces and nephews, as she was always very intentional about staying in touch with them and cherishing every opportunity to stay connected to them.

Lula is survived by her children, Clifford P. Goodhart, husband to Elizabeth Miller of Madison Wisconsin, and Despina J Veilleux, wife of John Veilleux Jr. of Gainesville, Florida, and her grandsons, Louis Goodhart and Daniel Veilleux. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mary C Pettis, and her older siblings, Virginia Dilworth, Elizabeth Zeswitz, and Vasiliki Carnoles.

Lula was adored by all who got to know her. Her flair and finesse were always instantly noticed, as well as her exquisite attention to style. Lu charmed everyone with her quick wit and then endeared them with her sincere and compassionate heart. She will be greatly missed by not only her family and friends, but also all those who were lucky enough to have had the opportunity to get to spend time with her, especially the care-givers, nurses, and doctors who were honored to have known her and be with her the last years and months of her life.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1001 East Wyomissing Blvd Reading PA 19611, with Reverend Theodore Petrides as officiant.
