Lynne A. Roberts, 78, of Wyomissing, passed away Monday, March 21, 2022, in the care of Phoebe Berks Health Care Center. Hers was a long road of heart-wrenching decline at the hands of a pitiless disease. She was brave; she endured; she lived each day as only she could. She will be painfully missed by her family and friends. She was the loving wife of Thomas E. Roberts.
Some may remember her as the manager of the Clinique concession at the former Wanamaker’s store, later as the secretary/receptionist at Singer Travel. She also took part in the “Title 9” reading program at Wyomissing Area Schools.
She was born in Glendale, CA, in 1943 to the late Paul and Beulah (Martin) Cooper. Her father was an army officer stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines during WWII. She lived the life of a military family child, living several years in post-war Japan until the end of the Korean War, and in the following years lived in several States as her father was relocated to various bases, then several more years in Orleans France. She and her sister calculated that they went to over thirty different schools as they were growing up. She returned to San Francisco as a teenager where she met her husband, Tom, while they both attended high school. In only a few years they were married and started a family. They shared a marriage of sixty years.
Lynne never really had a place to call home, but loved the idea of living on the East Coast. After brief stays in Idaho and later in Colorado, she and her family moved to Wyomissing in 1973, a place where she finally found a home. There, her gentle ways, dry wit, and gift for friendship won her a multitude of friends.
Her overseas experiences left her with a constant desire to see new places far from home. In the following years, she traveled through all of Europe, as well as to Russia, Turkey, Greece and Malta, both as a tourist with dear friends, and in her sometimes role as a tour guide for Singer Travel. Other trips included parts of Canada, and annual trips to Niagara on the Lake for the Shaw Festival. Her home, and memories and photo albums were filled with tokens of those trips.
Lynne and Tom are long time members of Bausman Memorial UCC church, at times singing in the choir, and taking part in church life along with her many friends. The years were filled with much of church life, and many choir parties, Christmas dinners at the Stouch Tavern, and trips to New York and the Jersey Shore at Mantoloking.
A loving wife and mother, Lynne’s memory is treasured by their son, Kevin and his wife Mandie, of Bowie, MD. Lynne is also survived by her grandchildren Victoria Roberts, Paul Roberts, Benjamin Roberts, and Mateo Chamorro; her sister, Priscilla Doman; and her nieces Lori and Jennie. Lynne was predeceased by her daughter, Renee, who is survived by her husband, Teddy Chamorro.
A celebration of her life will be held at Bausman Memorial UCC, 1064 Penn Avenue, Wyomissing, on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lynne’s memory may be made to Phoebe Ministries, office of Marketing and Institutional Advancement, 1925 Turner Street, Allentown, PA 18104. Please make checks payable to “Phoebe-Devitt Homes.”
