Obituary for Malcolm J. Reider Jr.

Malcolm J. Reider, Jr. 81, of Mohnton, passed away on April 16, 2023 at Ephrata Manor. Born in Stamford, CT, he was the son of the late Malcolm J. Reider, Sr. and M. Rita Laws, and was the husband of Sandra G. (Bair) Reider for 53 years.

Malcolm attended Franklin & Marshall College, Penn State, Berks, Albright College and McCann’s Business School. He worked at Meridian Bank for 4 years; then Reider Associates for 34 years until his retirement.

Malcolm enjoyed supporting all activities of his children. He was a past vestryman of Christ Church, Reading, and a council member of Allegheny Lutheran Church, Knauers, Mohnton. He served 3 years in the US Army in Ethiopia.

He will always be remembered by his caring for others, and by his miraculous recovery from a severe head injury caused by a car accident in late 1965.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children; Malcolm III and wife Gwen, Seattle, Andrea Spangler, husband Gregory, Josh and wife Dana, Erin and partner Justin, grandchildren; Leandra McKenzie, Lacey, WA; Andrew Keith, Lea Keith, Mohnton, JayLa Richardson, Isabella Spangler, Christian Spangler, Reading, Isaac and Arthur Reider, Seattle, Victoria Porcase, West Lawn, Travis Burk, Mohnton, great-grandchildren; Isaiah and Zachariah McKenzie, Lacey, WA, sisters; Mary E. Payne, Wyomissing, and Barbara Coyle, Wyomissing. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann L. Best.

A memorial service will be held at Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Ave. West Reading, PA 19611 on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 4 PM. Friends may greet the family from 3 PM until the time of service.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to UNICEF, the Alzheimer’s Association and the American Cancer Society.
