Obituary for Maria Torres (Rodriguez)

Maria (Rodriguez) Torres, aged 89, was greeted by her beloved husband of fifty years, Nicolas Casiano Torres, at heavens gates on November 28th, 2022. Maria was born in Villalba, Puerto Rico and moved to Pennsylvania in 1966, dedicated to raising her cherished children Magda “Maggie” Tirado, Nicholas Torres, Maria Morales, Gerardo “Jerry” Torres, and William “Willy” Torres.

She was a petite yet mighty woman – filled with faith, strength, and a heart filled with an overabundance of love as a mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, friend, and servant of God. Maria was fondly known as “Mama” and was adored by her twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She embraced her daughter -in-law Bridget Torres, her son-in-law’s Carlos Tirado Sr. and Eddy Morales, and her aide of 15 years Lori from Visiting Angels; loving them all as her own children.

Maria opened her home to many. Her deep love for the Lord shined through the way she lived her life as she was often observed extending a hand to anyone in need. Maria was an active member of her church St. Aloysius, Ultima Hispano of Pottstown, and The Legion of Mary. In her lifetime she volunteered at Alcamo Summer Camp as well as Helping Hands for mentally challenged children. Together with her husband, she cared for her community by sharing her love, meals and garden vegetables with others, along with putting smiles on the faces of children during the hot summer months with her “limber” popsicle treats.

Her home was always filled with a lot of love and she had a sassy sense of humor. Many laughs were shared with friends and family as she played Trouble or Dominos, watched Family Feud, and in memories of her crazy parakeets flying over the heads of family and friends enjoying a delicious Puerto Rican meal. Memories of Maria will keep us smiling and give us peace until we meet again in heaven.

We invite you to join us in celebrating Maria’s life on Wednesday, December 7th at St. Aloysius Church at the corner of Beech and Hanover Streets. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00AM with a celebration of life service to follow from 11:00-11:45AM. Burial will immediately follow the service at St. Aloysius Cemetery on the 800 block of Buchert Rd. Pottstown, PA 19464.

In lieu of flowers, Maria was a breast cancer survivor and donations can be made in her name through www.donate3.cancer.org
