Obituary for Marian I. "Paddy" Miller

Marian I. (Adams) Miller, known as Paddy, 89, of the Highlands at Wyomissing, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, in Reading Hospital.

She was the widow of Leon A. Miller, who died Aug. 21, 2017. They were married July 20, 1952, at Nativity Lutheran Church, Reading. They were married 65 years.

Born Dec. 14, 1932, in West Reading, she was the daughter of the late C. Arthur and Marian I. (Rebholz) Adams, Reading.

She was a graduate of Reading High School Class of 1951. She attended the Traphagen School of Design, New York City, in the 1950s. During her time there, she appeared on a New York television show, modeling her designs.

Paddy was a skilled and accomplished quilter, having shown her quilts in Berks County Quilters Guild shows and quilt shows in Naples, Fla., where she and her husband spent the winters in their retirement. Paddy won several awards and ribbons for her quilts. She loved to sew and try different arts, such as needlepoint, embroidery, knitting, painting and decoupage. She was a member of the Berks County Quilters Guild and the Naples Quilters Guild. She had been a member of the Berks County Embroiderers Guild, the Woman’s Club of Wyomissing and the Wyomissing Junior Woman’s Club. Paddy inspired her daughters and many others to pursue creative arts and interests.

She loved movies, travel and reading.

She was a member of Calvary United Church of Christ, Reading, for more than 50 years.

She is survived by four children, of whom she was very proud. The children are Karen L. Miller, wife of Bruce R. Posten, Spring Township; Kurt A. Miller, husband of Elizabeth (Taucher) Miller, Mount Lebanon, Allegheny County; Kristie A. (Miller) McMahon, wife of Patrick J. McMahon, Clarks Summit, Lackawanna County; and Kyle L. Miller, husband of Ashley K. Bernon-Miller, Boston, Mass.

Paddy was known as Mimi to her 10 grandchildren. They are Tyler Miller Posten, husband of Amanda (Petrino) Posten, Basking Ridge, N.J.; Ian Patrick McMahon, husband of Mei Yan Lee, Lincoln, Mass.; Adam Miller McMahon, husband of Meghan (Rutledge) McMahon, Allentown; Emily Elizabeth (Miller) Smith, wife of David Smith, Upper St. Clair, Allegheny County; Benjamin Taucher Miller, Pittsburgh; Alexandra Elizabeth Miller, New York City; Anna Elizabeth Miller, Pittsburgh; Kathleen Marian McMahon, New York City; Caroline Susanna Miller, New York City; and Avery-Morgan Kaye Miller, Boston.

And, two great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons.

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Robert D. and Dyanne L. (Kunsman) Adams, Spring Township, two nieces and a nephew. The family would like to thank Paddy's aides from Assured Assistance who helped her in her final years.

A viewing will be held Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will follow at Charles Evans Cemetery.
