Obituary for Marian L. Nygard

Marian L. (Helder) Nygard, 74, of Wyomissing, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at Reading Hospital. Her husband, George W. Nygard, passed away July 11, 2018, and together they truly celebrated 38 terrific years of marriage. Marian was also inseparable from her constant companion Andy, her lovable bichon frise.

Born in Lebanon, Marian was a daughter of the late Warren P. and Blanche M. (Douple) Helder. She was a registered nurse for the PA Department of Health for 25 years, retiring in 1998. Marian and George were proud “snowbirds,” eventually moving year-round to Arizona 10 years ago, before recently moving back to Reading.

Marian was a simple, but extremely caring woman, who got quiet enjoyment from puzzles, games and bingo. She and George traveled to some of the world’s most exotic places, but also relished the simple joys in life.

She would eagerly lend an ear to anyone facing life’s challenges, and was always the respected voice of reason. From challenges in business to personal relationships, Marian was always sought after for honest advice, and she gave it freely. It is this gift, which she gave to all those fortunate enough to know her, that will be missed the most.

Marian is survived by two loving step daughters: Sharon Nygard, Reading; and Debbie, wife of David Meas, Reading; as well as her granddaughter Jessica Nygard.

Services will be private at the family’s convenience.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Marian’s honor may be made to the Humane Society of Berks County, 1801 N. 11th Street, Reading, PA 19604, or to the Reading Public Museum, 500 Museum Road, Reading, PA 19611.
