Obituary for Marian C. Tuzes (Marsh)

Marian C. Tuzes, 98, of Shillington, PA, and formerly of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, in the care of Genesis Mifflin Rehab Center. She was the wife of the late Joseph Tuzes, who died October 12, 2014, after 47 years of marriage.

Born on August 17, 1924, in Plainfield, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Marion Charlotte (Lyon) Marsh and was raised by her stepmother, Mary Marsh.

Prior to her retirement in 1982, Marian worked for Mack Trucks in Plainfield, NJ, and Hagerstown, MD, for nearly 42 years. Attending many training classes during the infancy of the information technology age, she was instrumental in developing their data systems functions. She was the first woman involved in this endeavor with Mack Trucks.

Marian had a passion for snow skiing and enjoyed numerous trips to the Rockies during her retirement years. Upon advice from her doctors and her knees, she "retired" from skiing at the age of 79. She also loved to read, always supporting her local library. Other sports she enjoyed watching were tennis, golf, and football.

Marian was a generous and kind person. She contributed toward cures for cancer and Parkinson‘s disease; Native American causes; and animal welfare. She nurtured a special bond in Hagerstown with her neighbors and her St. Andrew Presbyterian Church family.

Marian leaves behind her daughter, Patricia L. (Neal) Zale, widow of Christian F. Zale, of Shillington; four grandchildren: Amanda (Neal) Campbell of AK; Jamie Neal of NH; Christian “Caz” Zale of PA; and Carli Zale of PA; and four great grandchildren: Keva and Ketchum of AK; Atticus and Alaric of PA. Also surviving is her sister, Jean Alberta Oakley of Nokomis, FL. In addition to her father, Albert; her mother, Marion Charlotte (Lyon); stepmother, Mary E. Crater-Marsh (known to the family as Nana); and her beloved husband, Joseph M. Tuzes, Marian was predeceased on June 25, 2021, by her son, Earl “Chip” Neal, who is survived by his widow, Nell Neal of Durham, NH, and by her brother, Robert Lyon Marsh Sr.

Her family will cherish her memory, her love of life, her laugh, and her infinite wisdom. Marian will be greatly missed; she has passed from our sight but never from our hearts.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 10813 Donelson Drive, Williamsport, MD 21795, with a fellowship luncheon to follow at the church. Pastor Mark A. Sandell will officiate. Interment will be private at Rest Haven Cemetery .

Flowers may be sent to the church or contributions may be made in Marian's memory to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson‘s Foundation, PO Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014 or michaeljfox.org. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
