Obituary for Marie E. Wagner

Marie E. (Schaffer) Wagner, 98, formerly of Shillington, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022, in the care of Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center.

She was the widow of Stewart S. Wagner, who passed away on April 8, 2000. They resided in Evanston, IL, for many years before returning to the Reading area in 1993. While in Evanston, she was very active in Unity Lutheran Church, as a member of the Women’s Group and Choir. After returning to Reading she was a member of Grace Lutheran Church Shillington. Marie’s favorite place was to be in the kitchen where she took great pride and detail in preparing her favorite recipes. Her only greater joy was spending time around the dining room table with friends and family sharing stories and memories, along with the fruits of her labor. Marie’s cakes, cookies and pies were famous among family and friends and the perfect capstone to a holiday meal.

Marie is survived by her much loved son, Stephen S. Wagner, husband of Marilyn, of Wyomissing; grandson, Sean S. Wagner, husband of Michelle, of Oxford, OH; step-grandson, James E. Tyler, husband of Tiffany, of Blandon, PA. She treasured her great granddaughter, Elise M. Wagner, and step-great-grandson, Julian G. Tyler. Marie is also survived by her cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
