Obituary for Mary Lillian Berger

Mary Lillian (Gladys) Berger, 96, formerly of Wyomissing, died December 9, 2018, at Elm Terrace Gardens, Lansdale.

She was the loving wife of Edward Francis Berger.

Born in Winnipeg, Canada, she was a daughter of the late John Alojzy and Karoliny (Tolpa) Gladysz.

During World War II, Mary left her home in Arborg, Canada for Washington, DC to work for the British Army Embassy with her purpose to "end the war." During that time Mary volunteered for the USO and Red Cross. While at a USO dance Mary met her future husband, Ed, and the rest of the story is history.

She was a member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.

Mary was a great cook, especially apple pie; and was an outstanding artist, painter and crocheter. She was an excellent seamstress, making her daughter's wedding gown.

She and her husband, Ed, were most proud of their family that include three children: Caroline, wife of John Jushchyshyn, Lansdown; Edward J., husband of Judy Berger, Wernersville; and John L., husband of Deborah Berger, Norristown. Eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren also survive her.

Mary was predeceased by four siblings: Stanley Gladys, Sr. Raphael, O.S.B., and twins, William and Casmir Gladys.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 2810 St. Albans Drive, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, with burial to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.
