Obituary for Mary Jane Herman (Sullivan)

Mary Jane "M.J." Herman, 96, passed away on Thursday, October 6th, 2022 at St. Francis Home in Reading. She was the loving wife of the late William R. Herman.

Born in Buffalo, New York, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Renney) Sullivan. She was preceded in death by brother Jack Sullivan, of West Seneca, New York and daughter Mary Anne (Herman) Dennis, of Denver, PA.

A devout Catholic, Mary Jane was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola, where for many years she served the church community in a variety of roles. Mary Jane was a sponsor coordinator for RCIA, a member of the Women's Society, and involved with the Diocesan Cursillo program.

Mary Jane loved spending time with her family and friends whether in person or catching up over the phone or in letters. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, bird watching, eating dark chocolate and keeping up with current events. Her favorite past times were spent traveling, visiting abroad with her St. Iggy's group to Rome and Ireland and with her family to Cape May on the New Jersey shore.

Left to cherish her memory is son, Paul W. Herman of Spring City; daughters: Catherine R. Herman of Philadelphia, Elizabeth M. Herman of Muhlenberg Township, and Margaret M. Herman of West Reading; granddaughters, Ann Malhotra (Gaurav) of Philadelphia, and Megan Antosy (Chris) of Saint Lawrence, PA; great grandchildren: Adeline, Niam and Christopher; and her nieces and nephew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 18th, 2022 at 10:30 am at St. Ignatius Loyola RC Church, 2600 St. Albans Drive, Sinking Spring, PA, 19608. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church from 10:00 am until the time of Mass. Private interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Rd, Reading, PA 19605.
