Obituary for Michael John "Mickey" Restrepo

Michael John Restrepo, age 58, passed away in the arms of his wife of 31 years, Sharon Kay Restrepo (O’Reilly) on October 15, 2018. Born at Reading Hospital on November 16, 1959, Mickey was the last of six children born to Robert P. and Patricia A. Restrepo (Price).

Mickey graduated from Wyomissing Area High School in 1977, followed by graduations from Tufts University in 1981 and Georgetown Law School in 1986.

After dating Sharon through law school, they were married on January 3, 1987 at St. Ignatius Loyola Church.

As a 1997 candidate for Berks County Common Pleas Judge, Mickey impressed many that he met with his commitment to truth, justice, and family. His law career spanned decades. His varied talents included writing a novel and serving as an adjunct professor at Albright College and on several local boards and foundations. His firm, Restrepo Law, devoted his legal expertise to helping those who suffered great loss.

Mickey’s love of family shined throughout his life. Twenty annual “Restrepo Family Reunions” were some of his happiest memories on the beach and in the waves. He loved swimming, surfing, wind surfing, snowboarding, basketball and golf. When not playing a sport, he would be cheering on his daughters in tennis and volleyball or Philly sports teams with passion and pride.

His greatest legacy is his family. He was blessed to have a network of close friends, with special thanks to lifelong friend, Robert (Bob) Wertz of Wyomissing for his tremendous help and constant support. Quoting Mickey’s dad, “It’s not what you bring to the table, it’s what you leave behind”.

In addition to his loving wife, Mickey is survived by his three children: Corinne Shea, wife of Alexander Davis, Hilary Kay, and Shannon Beck. Julia Bernadette Davis, the first grandchild of Mickey and Sharon, brought more joy and smiles to each day.

Mickey is also survived by four siblings: Robert P., husband of Mary Frances, Columbus, OH; Ronald J., husband of Candace, Houston, TX; Kathryn E., wife of William Jackman, Tabernacle, NJ; Dr. James P., husband of Katherine, Wyomissing, PA; and his sister in law, Wendy Restrepo of Tampa, FL. Many nephews and nieces adored Mickey throughout his life.

His parents and brother, Dr. William F. Restrepo, predeceased Mickey.

Mickey and his family are grateful for the loving care from Hospice for All Seasons and the Hershey Medical Center ALS team.

With strong faith, Mickey would like everyone to know that he is now at peace, able to freely move once more in God’s grace.

Calling hours for family and friends will be Thursday, October 25th from 6 to 8 pm at Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading, PA. The services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, October 26th at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, West Lawn, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The ALS Foundation at: www.alsphiladelphia.org/
