Obituary for Michael Ralph Ronco

Michael Ralph Ronco, 85, of Robesonia, died November 30, 2015, at Reading Hospital.

He was the husband of Robbyn L. (Schultz) Ronco; they were married on May 25, 1980.

Born in Roseto, PA, he was the son of the late Ralph and Antoinette (Falcone) Ronco.

Michael was a 1944 graduate of Roseto Public School and a 1948 graduate of Bangor High School. He graduated from Albright College with a pre-med degree in 1952 and was the president and secretary of Kappa Upsilon Phi fraternity. In 1955, he graduated with merit from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science where he was also Grand Master of Upsilon Sigma Phi during his senior year.

In 1956, Michael opened Ronco’s Pharmacy on Dwight and Cleveland Streets in West Lawn. He moved the pharmacy to Penn Avenue in West Lawn in 1967. For 58 years, Michael loved owning Ronco’s Pharmacy and being a pharmacist. He retired from the pharmacy in November of 2014.

Michael was elected president of the Berks County Pharmaceutical Association in the late 1950s and was a volunteer with the Western Berks Ambulance Association. He also assisted the medical society with the distribution of the polio vaccine at Wilson High School.

Later, he was appointed to the Spring Township Planning Commission and served on the Green Valley Board of Directors in the 1970s. He was a member of the Pioneer Hose Company, Robesonia and obtained his private pilot’s license.

Michael was a very loving and devoted husband who adored his children and family. He enjoyed taking care of his home, boating on the Chesapeake, socializing with his friends and making 3-D puzzles. Michael was a huge Alabama football fan and loved vacationing at the Excellence Resort in Mexico or visiting the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing the trumpet in the school band. Michael was an all-around great man who always had people laughing with his jokes.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three daughters, Donna Pichini, wife of Andy; Michele Radomski, wife of Bill; and Mary Ellen Haley, wife of Steve; and his son Steve Ronco, husband of Terry. He is also survived by his stepson, Matt Kreitz, husband of Collette. There are five grandchildren: Zackery (Ronco) Levonuk and his wife Jenna; Bill Radomski, Jr. and his wife Drena; Alissa (Ronco) Barrie and her husband Kyle; Rachael Radomski; and Madeline Mary Kreitz. Two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Radomski and June Barrie. There is also one nephew, Ralph Ronco.

He was predeceased by one brother, Domenick F. Ronco.

Services will be Saturday, December 5, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading with burial to follow in Pleasant View Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
