Obituary for Miguel A. Ortiz

Miguel A. Ortiz, 77, passed away with his loved ones by his side on May 24, 2020, in the Penn State Health Milton Hershey Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of Hylda (Santiago) Ortiz, with whom he celebrated 25 years of marriage.

Born in Humacao, PR, he was the son of the late Juan and Gregoria (Vasquez) Ortiz.

Miguel was last employed by, and loved spending his time at, Centro Hispano. He previously worked at and retired from Birdsboro Steel as a crane operator and Chima Inc., as a shipping clerk.

He was an avid pool player and he loved his Jeep. He also enjoyed cooking, but most importantly he lived for spending time with his family. He was well-known for his giving nature and his
catchphrase to every man that entered his home, “You want a beer?”

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Miguel Ortiz Jr., Reading; Norma Ortiz, wife of Antonio Calleja, Bern Township; Anna M. Ortiz, Reading; and David Ortiz, Wernersville. If you asked him, he also had a bonus child, his granddaughter Siani J. Flores, Reading. He is survived by eleven siblings, Victoria Vega, Carmelo Vasquez, Virginia Rodriguez, William Ortiz, Delia Ortiz, Raul Ortiz, Rosa Ortiz, Juan Ortiz Jr., Andrea Ortiz, and Elias Ortiz; and 21 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

A drive-up visitation will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., is in charge of arrangements. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. in St Peter’s R.C. Church, 322 S. 5th St., Reading, PA 19602, with a private burial to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
