Obituary for Nancy Ellen Cowan

Nancy Ellen Cowan, 66, of Harrisburg, passed away on March 14, 2021.

Born in Harrisburg, she was a daughter of the late John (aka “Rusty”) and Mary (Harper) Cowan.

She was a graduate of American University, in Washington DC, where she earned her law degree. As a lawyer she was employed by Pennsylvania Department of State for many years.

Nancy adored her 3 kitties, Louie, Tiny and Pumpkin and treated them like her children. She lived a selfless life and touched the hearts of each person she met. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her, particularly those who lived in her mid-town neighborhood.

Her interest in community affairs led her to try her hand at politics, running for the PA House of Representatives to represent Cumberland County.

Nancy is survived by three siblings: Eileen Scanlan, wife of Wayne Poplinski, Wyomissing, Maura Cowan, Carlisle and Matthew, husband of Monica Cowan, Mechanicsburg. One nephew, Luke Scanlan, Wyomissing and two nieces, Jessica, wife of Shawn James, Mount Joy and Summer Naugle, Rochester, NY also survive her. She was very involved in her nieces’ and nephew’s lives, and spent a lot of time in their company.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Helen O. Krause Animal Foundation Inc., PO Box 311 Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
