Obituary for Nancy L. Giles
Nancy L. Giles, 88, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Promedica in Sinking Spring.
Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Hilbert) Stetler. She shared 18 years of marriage with Charles Modano until his passing in 1971. She would later marry Ralph C. Giles, Jr, with whom she shared 32 years of marriage until his passing in 2007. For many years, Nancy worked as a salesperson at Service Merchandise, Boscov's and other retail stores in Berks County. She was also very active in her community, serving as President of the Antietam Swimming Pool Association, President of Berkshire Heights Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary, and Vice President, and then President, of the East End Athletic Club. With her husband, Charles Modano, she fostered several children through
Catholic Charities of Reading.
Nancy was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where she served as a Trustee and on the Pastor Relations Committee.
Left to cherish Nancy's memory is a son, Mark A. Modano of New York, NY; daughters, Theresa Johnson of Reading, PA, Deborah L. Giles of Exdelsior Springs, MO, and Cathy Weatherholtz, husband of Richard Weatherholtz, of Wernersville, PA; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Malcolm Stetler, Mabel (Stetler) Ringler, and Mary (Stetler) Schmeck, and a grandson, Scott Johnson.
