Obituary for Nancy L. Martin

Nancy L. Martin, 78, passed away in the afternoon of January 15th, 2021, at Reading Hospital.

She was born on August 7th, 1942, at her family home in Fritztown to Ernest and Mamie Meckley.

Nancy grew up on Columbia Avenue in Sinking Spring, was a 1960 graduate of Wilson High School and a life-long resident of Spring Township.

In 1972, she settled in a home on Reading Boulevard where she raised her two children, and eventually it became a second home for three grandchildren. It was also the hub of holiday celebrations, including at least 29 consecutive Christmases and countless other memories over the course of 49 years.

Nancy had a 32-year career at Palmer Candy Company in the ribbon department before retiring in 2010.

Nancy was a devoted follower and believer in Jesus Christ, and was a longtime member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in West Lawn. Over the course of her life, she also attended St. John’s Reformed Church in Sinking Spring, the Church of the Nazarene in Reading and Olive Leaf Chapel in Fritztown for Sunday school as a child.

Nancy was a pinochle aficionado and played monthly with two dear childhood friends; Lanette and Lorraine. She was also a lover of the Wildwood beach, dedicated caretaker of her pool, and dutiful organizer of Wilson Class of '60 luncheons. She was happiest when surrounded by those she cared about. We will miss her laugh, her smile and the love she selflessly gave us over the course of nearly eight decades. There is no doubt in the minds of those who knew her that Nancy is now where she was meant to be, but the loss is immeasurable to those of us she left behind.

Nancy is survived by two daughters, Denise (David) Hikes and Sharlene (Jeffrey) Koyste; three grandchildren, Brandon (Alicia) Koyste, Nikki (Joshua) Snyder and Alexa (Michael) Freyman; and four beloved great-grandchildren, Ethan and Alivia Koyste, Mila Snyder and Eva Freyman, with one more on the way.

Nancy is additionally survived by ex-husband and father to their children, Donald (Judith) Moll, with whom she remained friends, and by three siblings, Shirley (Donald) Hackman, Larry (Debbie) Meckley and Linda (John) Hughes, along with nieces and nephews she loved as her own children, cousins, other family and friends too numerous to list.

The immediate family would like to thank Christine (Thomas) Grace for being an unwavering medical advocate for Nancy throughout the years along with being a devoted and loving niece.

Nancy is predeceased by her father, Ernie Meckley, and mother, Mamie Meckley.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic family is requesting that only immediate family members be in person at the funeral home for the visitation and service. However, a live steam viewing will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. with services to follow at 11:30 a.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will be public at Pleasant View Cemetery.
