Neil A. Schiavo, 71 of Wyomissing, passed away on Saturday, September 1 at Reading Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born March 12, 1947 in Hazelton, PA, he was the son of the late Neal P. and Theresa (Lettiere) Schiavo. He was married for 42 years to Karen (Wanner) Schiavo, his soulmate and business partner.

A graduate of Reading High School, Neil was a realtor all of his life, last working for Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, West Lawn. He simply loved selling houses and helping people find their dream home. When not working, Neil enjoyed boating, water skiing and swimming, as well as traveling with Karen nationally and overseas; Italy was their favorite destination.

In addition to his wife, Neil is survived by his son Brian, husband of Susan, Sinking Spring, his stepdaughter Dawn, wife of Jody Rush, Tucson, AZ, and his granddaughter Emily Marie Schiavo. Neil will also be dearly missed by his beloved puppies GiGi and Daisy.

The Schiavo family would like to thank the caregivers at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute-Lancaster General Health, the Reading Hospital, and Heartland Hospice for their compassion and expert care of Neil through his battle. In addition, they would like to thank the Grande Family, which Neil always considered his “second family,” the Wixon Family, and special friends Kayla Kateman and Donna Levante for all of their love and kindness.

A public visitation will be held Friday, September 7 from 9:30-11:00am at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA. Committal will be private.

The family asks for no flowers, please. Instead, please consider making a donation in Neil’s honor to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County at www.berksarl.org/donate, or the Humane Society of Berks County, Inc., at www.humanepa.org/partners/humane-society-of-berks-county
