Nina Maria Shecktor, 69, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at St. Joseph's Medical Center. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Kerek and Maria (Caporale) Shecktor. Nina received her M.A. in Spanish from Bryn Mawr College and her Ph.D. in Spanish from Temple University. She worked at Temple University and Kutztown University as a Professor of Spanish for 36 years.
Nina attended St. Ignatius RCC. She had a logical mind that loved to research and read. Nina was great with children and adored them. She will be missed deeply by the SMC forum where she devoted her time to helping bring together a community of single mothers to support each other.
Left to treasure her memory are her children, Colin K. Shecktor of Wyomissing and Cristina K. Shecktor of Wyomissing as well as her brother, Andrew Shecktor of Berwick.
Nina was predeceased by her aunt, Adele Weiner.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading. The visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be held Wednesday April, 19, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at Har Jehuda Cemetery, 8400 Lansdowne Ave, Upper Darby, PA 19082.
