Obituary for Robert P. Bright

Robert Paul Bright, 87, of Spring Township formerly from West Reading passed away on December 28, 2020 from COVID-19 at Berks Heim where he resided for the past four years due to progressive supranuclear palsy. Born September 21, 1933, he was the son of the late Minnie (Reiver) and Roger Bright. Robert was born, raised, lived, and worked in the same community for most of his life. He thought the world of West Reading and it was made better by his devotion to his family and his hometown.

Robert was an Army veteran stationed in Germany and served from 1954 to 1955. Robert worked for 30 years for the Borough of West Reading in maintenance where he fixed water leaks, read water meters, plowed snow, and kept the Borough in tiptop shape. Everyone in West Reading knew him fondly as Bobby. He retired from the Borough in 1995.

Robert served as Scoutmaster for fifteen years mentoring his sons and many scouts in the community. Robert looked forward to spending a week at summer camp with his sons. He was a standout football player at West Reading High School and loved watching a good football game. In 2015, he was inducted into the Wyomissing Area High School Football Hall of Fame. Robert faithfully attended St. John’s Reformed Church in Sinking Spring. Robert was the best of husbands, the best of fathers, and the best of grandfathers.

Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Suzann and their two sons William (Cindy) Bright, Princeton Junction, NJ, and David (Maggie) Bright, Valencia, CA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Matthew Bright, New York, NY, Samantha Bright, New York, NY, McKenzie Bright, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, and Jackson Bright, Santa Barbara, CA. He was predeceased by sisters Peggy Sweeney and Bernice Mountz, and by brother Gerald Bright.

In lIeu of flowers the family requests donations to the Wilson Area Food Pantry, 4125 Penn Avenue, Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania 19608, where Robert and Suzann volunteered. The family is planning a memorial service when it is safe to gather. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
