Obituary for Roberta Dettling (Smith)
Roberta L. Dettling, 84, of Concord, NC, and formerly of Spring Twp (Lincoln Park), passed away peacefully on January 5, 2021, at Tucker House Hospice of Cabarrus County, NC.
Born in Reading, PA she was the daughter of the late Robert Smith and the late Elsie May (Smith) Schwenk, wife of the late Edward Schwenk. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Conrad J. Dettling.
“Bobbie” graduated from Reading High School, Class of 1956.
Bobbie previously worked for American Bank & Trust, Leader Nursing Home and was a CNA at The Highlands of Wyomissing until her retirement. Bobbie was an active member at St. John Baptist de la Salle where she enjoyed casino bus trips, playing bingo, and attending church picnics before moving to North Carolina in June 2020. Bobbie loved to sing and play card games. Crazy 8's was her favorite card game in her later years. After retirement, she volunteered at La Salle Academy as a cafeteria aid with her best friend, Cathy Grandinetti, on Wednesdays.
Surviving are her two sons, Todd Dettling of Concord, NC, and Brian Dettling of Portland, OR. She also leaves behind her daughter-in-law, Stacey, and cherished granddaughter, Mathilde, of Portland, OR.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 10 AM at St. John Baptist de la Salle Catholic Church, 42 Kerrick Road, Shillington, with burial following at Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. Viewing will be at the church from 9:00 AM until the start of Mass.
