Ronald Dwain Stonefelt, 88, of Lower Heidelberg passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023. He was the husband of Monica Phyllis Stonefelt and the son of the late Elmer G. and Wilmot (Johns) Stonefelt. Ronald was born in Oak Park, Illinois, on May 5, 1935. While growing up, in addition to Oak Park, he also lived: in Downers Grove, IL; Eau Claire, WI; and St. Paul, MN.
He graduated from Central High School of St. Paul, MN, in 1953 and from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree of Mechanical Engineering in 1958. He worked one summer for Western Electric Co. when it was still in St. Paul and was hired after graduation and worked for 32 years for Western Electric/Lucent/Agere in Reading, PA, retiring in 1989 as a senior engineer. He was awarded one US Patent.
He met his wife to be at Western Electric, and they were married in 1960. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on February 6, 2023. Ron and Phyllis enjoyed traveling, first in their motorhome and later in their camper van, and they visited all but three states and all but three Canadian Provinces.
Ronald was an avid Philadelphia Flyers Hockey fan, attending or watching games on television since they joined the NHL in 1967.
He was a member of Bern Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served six years on church council and seven and a half years as chairman of the property committee.
In addition to his wife, Ronald is survived by three children: Linda, wife of Brian Shellabear, of Exeter; Cheryl, wife of Donald McVay, of Savannah, GA; and Thomas, husband of Heather Stonefelt, of Wernersville. He is also survived by six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and his sister, LaVonne Johnson of Frisco, TX.
