Obituary for Ruth D. Shade

Ruth D. (Kleinsmith) Shade, 83, formerly of Wyomissing, passed away early morning of Sunday April 11, 2021, at The Lutheran Home at Topton.

She was the loving wife of Gerald A. Shade, they married April 18, 1959 and would of celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Born on April 23, 1937, in Laureldale, she was a daughter of the late Walter H. and Edna (Howard) Kleinsmith.

She was a graduate of Fleetwood High School in 1955 and Reading Hospital School of Nursing in 1958.

Ruth was a member of Advent Lutheran Church.

She was employed by the Reading Hospital as a register nurse and in the staff development department for 38 ½ years retiring in 1997.

Ruth was past president of the Reading Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association and Board Member of District 2 Pennsylvania Nurses Association.

She was a warm, caring, selfless person with a great sense of humor who will be sincerely missed by all. Ruth especially enjoyed family gatherings and traveling to Tennessee to visit her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

Ruth had limitless love and devotion for her three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who affectedly known her as grandma.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Brenda, wife of James Evans, Kutztown and Dale, husband of Michele Shade, TN; three siblings: Ethel, widow of Earl Rothermel, Blandon, Erma, wife of Walter Kazmierczak, Flying Hills, and Joan, wife Roy Rothenberger, Laureldale. Three grandchildren: Kayla, wife of D. Kirk Embry, TN, Zachary Evans, Blandon and Samantha Evans, a student at University of Wisconsin Graduate School; and two great-grandchildren, Scarlett Embry and D. Luke Embry, also survive her.

Ruth was predeceased by her sister, Jean Burgraff.

Services will be held Thursday April 15. 2021, at 1 p.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Temple with burial to follow at St. John’s (Hain’s) Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 12 to 1 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Advent Lutheran Church, 16 Telford Ave, West Lawn, PA 19609.
