Obituary for Ruth M Rausch (Epting)

Ruth M. (Epting) Rausch, 92, passed away May 10, 2023, in her Hamburg home surrounded by her loving family. Her husband, Herbert J. Rausch died on August 28, 2015. They were married nearly 54 years.

Born in Perry Township, on February 21, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Earl J. and Mary C. (Yeager) Epting. She was a 1948 graduate of Perry High School. Ruth was employed by the Berks County Intermediate Unit for 15 years as a receiver.

Family and faith were most important to Ruth. She was a member of St. Paul’s (Smoke) Church, where she served as the church council secretary for several years. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, life-long member of the Ontelaunee Grange, Pomona Grange, and a past secretary of the Centerport Grange for many years.

Ruth loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards and games as well as crochet and knitting. In 1978, she donated a crocheted Last Supper Alter piece to St. Paul’s Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen R..R, wife of Thomas Hartman of Sinking Spring, and Dorothy M., wife of Craig Schappell of Hamburg; one son, Timothy, husband of Vickie (Huey) Rausch of Shoemakersville. She is also survived by one brother, Earl Epting, Auburn; and four grandchildren: Jacob and Nicholas Rausch and Natasha and Felicia Schappell.

Ruth was predeceased by two brothers, Harold and Arlan Epting; and one sister, Marie Snyder.

Funeral Services for Ruth will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s (Smoke) Lutheran Church, with a viewing from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church. An additional viewing will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 7:00-9:00 p.m., at the Kuhn Funeral Home & Crematory, Hamburg (formerly Burkey & Driscoll).
