Obituary for Samuel R. "Shadow" Castillo Pedraza

Samuel R. “Shadow” Castillo Pedraza, 36, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022, in care of Reading Hospital after his family made the courageous choice to honor his wishes to be a donor for Gift of Life. Sam’s legacy will forever change the lives of over 25 other families who receive his heroic gift.

Born in El Coyolote, Michoacán Mexico, he was the son of Daniel and Maria (Pedraza) Castillo. His family settled in the United States when he was a child. A member of St. Peter’s the Apostle church, he graduated from Reading High School in 2005. He was employed at Colebrooke Enterprises Ltd, manufacturing American flags.

Samuel was a generous and loving person. He liked to dance and played soccer for the Reading Soccer League for El Nacional team. Family was important to Samuel. His children were the most important part of his life, and he was fiercely protective of his sisters and daughters. His brother, Diego, was his best friend. He loved spending time with his mother and sister Rosa, who he saw more like a second mother rather than as a sister.

In addition to his parents, Daniel and Maria, Sam’s memory will forever be treasured by: his three children: Dylan, Jocelynn, and Jaelynn; siblings: Rosaura Castillo (Juan Carlos Aguilera) of Reading; Ericka Ruelas (Alonzo) of Sinking Spring; Josefina Gonzalez (Alejandro) of Sinking Spring; Diego Castillo Pedraza of Reading, and Marisol Castillo (Carlos Villanueva) of Reading; nieces and nephews: Ariana, Juan Carlos, Jr., Cristina, Daniel, Mia, Joseantonio, Sofia, Cynthia, Victoria, Karina, Alejandro, Jr., Leah, Nayeli, Valeria, Giovanni, and Giancarlo. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Maria del Carmen; his aunts, uncles, cousins, and many extended family members; and more friends than can be counted.

A viewing will be held at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home in West Reading on Friday, August 5, 2022 from 6:00-9:00 pm with a Rosary service beginning at 7:00 p.m.

A second visitation will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022 beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the start of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Church, Reading, with committal at Gethsemane Mausoleum to follow.
