Obituary for Susan A. Campanella

Susan A. Campanella, 74, of Wyomissing, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of 55 years of Carl A. Campanella.

Born in Brooklyn to the late Peter and Nancy (Sapienza) Traina, Susan graduated from Prospect Heights High School.

She was a member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish.

For many years Susan worked as an administrative assistant during her early career, but once she had school aged children, she tried to align her talents to work in the schools that her kids attended. Although that could lead to some embarrassing moments in front of the kid’s friends, her son recalls these times fondly as she always was available to attend to their needs.

Susan was a great lover of animals. She had a number of Golden Retrievers throughout her adult life, and joy would fill her heart whenever she saw the deer roaming in her yard in Pennsylvania, and at her son and daughter-in-law’s home in Delaware. She was a supporter of the Animal Rescue League and the World Wildlife Fund. Susan enjoyed playing Mah Jongg for many years. One of her greatest challenges was trying to teach her son and the rest of the immediate family how to play the game, but it unfortunately was too difficult for them to master, and she always ran circles around them when it came to play.

Susan’s memory will be treasured by her husband, Carl; her son Peter C. Campanella, husband of Kimberly A. Campanella, of Spring Township; and her grandson, Anthony Campanella.

In addition to her parents, Susan was predeceased by her daughter, Laura A. Campanella Bonetti, and her sisters, Tomasina, Ninette, and Patricia.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Susan’s memory may be offered to the Animal Rescue League, 58 Kennel Rd, Birdsboro, PA 19508, or to St. Ignatius of Loyola Roman Catholic Church, 2600 St Albans Dr, Reading, PA 19609.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 11:30 AM at St. Ignatius of Loyola Church, 2600 St Albans Dr, Reading, PA 19609. Friends and family are invited to gather in the church from 11:00 AM until the start of Mass. The Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, is entrusted with services.
