Obituary for Thad Gordon Kistler

Thad Gordon Kistler, 50, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2023, in his Wyomissing residence after an intense battle with esophageal cancer. Having been in love since they were both 15 years old, Thad was the loving husband of Christina M. (Best) Kistler. This year they would have celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary in May.

Born in Reading, he was the son of Gordon Ray Kistler of Mohrsville and the late Mary Jane (Roth) Kistler. Being an only child, Thad and his parents cherished time with family during Thad’s childhood. His father Gordon would frequently coach his sports teams growing up, creating a very special father and son bond.

Thad was a 1990 Schuylkill Valley High School graduate who then attended Penn State University and Kutztown University in hopes of pursuing special education. Thad then transitioned into his role at Carpenter Technology shortly after, where he was employed for over 28 years, finishing as a crane operator. Although the work was hard and long, he made lasting friendships at CarTech.

Thad was a loving and devoted husband in addition to being a supportive and involved father. He would almost never miss a game, match, recital, or meet, for either of his children. Thad was known to always cheer on his kids in addition to other players.

He was a man of many interests, a few being fishing, sports, volunteering for the Bern Township Lion’s Club, antique shopping with his father, and visiting breweries, wineries, restaurants, and distilleries with his wife. A few local favorites included Saucony Creek, Ridgewood Winery, and Alebije. He was always a lover of spicy foods, good drinks, and a fun time.

In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by two children, Savannah R. Kistler, a graduate student of Gannon University, and Brock G. Kistler, a student at Wyomissing High School.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 11, 2023, at 11a.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Friends and Family may call Saturday from 10a.m. to 11a.m. at the funeral home, where a service will then follow from 11a.m. to 12p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bern Township Lions Club, PO Box 236, Leesport, PA 19533.
