Thomas R. Confer, 93, passed away August 2, 2023, in his Hamburg residence.
He was the loving companion to Shirley M. Wilhelm for over 33 years.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Thomas F. and Faye (Ritter) Confer. He and his family were direct descendants of Conrad Weiser.
He was a graduate of Hamburg High School and later attended Mercersburg Academy until being called to military duty.
Thomas was the co-owner and operator of Rau Brother’s Appliances, Hamburg for many years.
Thomas served our nation proudly and valiantly in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
Family and faith were most important to Thomas. He was a life-long member of First United Church of Christ of Hamburg where he held many offices and lastly served as a church elder.
Thomas was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of several Veteran’s organizations, life member of the Moose, and proudly became an Eagle Scout and Troop Leader where he shared the knowledge of survival skills to the younger generation.
A memorial service will be held Monday August 7, 2023, at 11 a.m. at First United Church of Christ, 76 South 3rd St, Hamburg, PA 19526 with burial to follow at St. John’s Cemetery. A visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First United Church of Christ at the above address.
