Obituary for Thomas C. Fichthorn

Print
Thomas C. Fichthorn, 69, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 11, 2018, in his Blandon residence with his loving family by his side. Born April 27, 1949 in Reading, he was a son of the late Eugene and Sarah (Murton) Fichthorn. Tom celebrated 46 years of marriage to Sharon (Umbenhouer) Fichthorn.

A Reading High School graduate, Tom served his nation proudly in the U.S. Navy. He then worked for over 40 years for Alcon/Sharpoint/Surgical Specialties, first as a machine operator and then supervisor.

Above all else, family was what Tom lived for. He was kind and loving, with a great sense of humor, always clowning around with his grandchildren, and using his humor to teach them life lessons. Quite simply, he was a “real character.”

He also loved the Philadelphia Eagles, and relished in watching them win the Super Bowl earlier this year. He enjoyed model trains, and kept his terrific layout up throughout the year.

In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by their two children: son Michael, husband of Kimberly, Maidencreek, daughter Sandy, Fleetwood, and grandchildren Felisha Gambler, Tyler Fichthorn and Luis Gomez, each of whom will greatly miss their Pop-Pop. He is also survived by a sister Verna Herron, and a brother Gary; he was predeceased by a brother Ed.

A Celebration of Tom’s life will be held Thursday, November 15 at 12:30pm at the Kuhn Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 5153 Kutztown Road, Temple, followed by burial with military honors at Berks County Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 11:30am-12:30pm Thursday in the Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom’s honor may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.

Kuhn Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Temple, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be
