Thomas W. Werley, 70, formerly of Hamburg, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers after a long and courageous battle with scleroderma. He was born in Reading, PA, on December 9, 1952 to Mary (Reppert) and Warren Werley. He was the husband of Bonnie J. (Rhoads) Werley. They would have celebrated 49 years of marriage in August.
He was a graduate of Hamburg Area High School Class of 1970 and Moravian University. While living in Hamburg, he was employed as a plant superintendent in the Hamburg and Laureldale General/ Exide Battery plants. He was part owner of Indian Fort Inn for a number of years.
He also coached Little League, served on Hamburg Borough Council, and refereed Berks Interscholastic basketball. He later moved to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands where he taught kindergarten for 2 years and then returned to industry working as Materials Manager at the Hess Oil Refinery. Other employment over the years was with Principal Consulting in Mount Dora, FL, and John Deere in Moline, Illinois.
He and Bonnie retired to Fort Myers, FL, in 2010, where he enjoyed playing pickleball until he was physically unable. He also enjoyed traveling the country in his RV, going to rock concerts, and was a lifelong Phillies fan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Jeffry Werley of Hamburg, 4 nephews, 1 niece and his beloved dog, Jethro.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 15, at Burkey and Driscoll in Hamburg. Services will begin at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at St. John’s Cemetery.
