Wally Anthony Wanner Woytovich, 76, of Wyomissing, PA, passed away on January 5, 2021 at home, surrounded in his final weeks by his loving family. He is survived by Helen (Pullano) Woytovich, his wife of 54 years, his son Jeffery, Jeff’s wife Betsy (Gibney), his daughter Christine and her significant other Ryan McCoy, as well as six grandchildren who lovingly called him Poppy: Helena Woytovich, Connor Hargreaves, Madison Woytovich, Kyle Hargreaves, Sofia Woytovich, and Amelia Woytovich.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Wassel and Dorothy Laura (Wanner) Woytovich. He attended Schuylkill Valley High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the 1st and 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force as well as two tours in Vietnam. Wally held many jobs throughout his life, including Security and Chauffeur Services at Carpenter Technology and Head of Security of the Berkshire Mall. He also owned WallyAnthony’s Transportation. Wally worked for the County of Berks until his retirement in 2012, serving as a police officer, constable, at the juvenile detention center, as deputy sheriff, and most recently as the First Chief Deputy Coroner. Wally had a thirst for knowledge and attended many classes and academies throughout his professional life, most notably graduating with honors from Penn State University Deputy Sheriffs Education and Training Program, the oldest member of his graduating class.
Wally was always willing to lend a hand to a friend, neighbor or colleague in need. Above all else he cherished spending time with his family and “The Reading 8” who were friends who became family, as well as many other friends including his coffee buddies at the Berkshire Mall.
In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Wally is also survived by his sister Dalene Ann Martin, wife of Kenneth, his brother-in-law Sam Pullano, husband of Rose, and many nieces and nephews.
