Obituary

Obituary for Walter H. Davis

Walter Harry Davis (affectionately called Pop) passed away on April 7, 2020 at the age of 92 in Reading Hospital. Walt was married to his loving wife, Martha, for 72 years (wow!) and together they created a beautiful family of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren totaling 96 members. Pop was a caring, supportive family man. His wit and dry sense of humor is a family legend. He could always be counted on to love and cherish, forgive and forget, and throw in lots of hugs and kisses.

Pop’s deeply rooted Catholic faith and his reverence for life was a guiding light for both him and his community. Throughout his long life, he volunteered his time for numerous church, school and community organizations.

Walter was born in Chester, Pa, graduated from St. James High School then enlisted in Navy Air Corps. After the war, he enrolled in Lehigh University graduating as a Mining Engineer. After working in the mines for several years, he enrolled at Villanova University graduating with a degree in electrical engineering. After a successful career at Western Electric, he worked as a software engineer in retirement.

A celebration of Walter’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heritage Veterans Association, 200 Tranquility Lane, Reading, PA 19607 or to Sacred Heart Church, 701 Franklin St, West Reading PA 19611. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.

To Martha, Ken and Alice, Carl, and the entire Davis extended family we send our heartfelt condolences. We are so sorry for your great loss. Walt was such a good man in so many ways. We will forever remember him as quietly standing next to Martha, patiently listening to one of her passionate pronouncements on any number of topics, biding his time for an opportunity to offer his concise, intelligent, often humorous input. In addition, he was for us the personification of moral character, quiet strength, loyal friendship, and manly virtue. We loved Walt dearly and are so grateful for the privilege of knowing him for so many years. Rick and Mary Deemer

To Martha and all the Davis family we offer our sympathy. Walt walked the talk as a husband, father and friend – a Catholic gentleman. We pray for his peaceful rest in our Lord’s merciful embrace with thanks for the life of this good man and his example.

My condolences to the Davis family. I have fond memories of living next door on Cleveland Avenue in West Wyomissing. We only lived next door for a few years as you moved to Wyomissing. I always remember you taking me to the Reading Public Library in your 1961 Ford station wagon. I was fortunate enough to see Mr. and Mrs. Davis after church at Sacred Heart and I always enjoyed talking to them. Rest in peace Mr. Davis. Jim Gontarchick

Pop was a man of few words but I learned so much from observing him over 35 yrs. His selfless approach to life was something to admire and emulate . He always put his faith, spouse and family first and for that, his life was enriched with happiness. Pop, we will miss you but you left a roadmap for all to follow! With tremendous gratitude I say, well done Pop, a life well lived!
