Obituary for William J. McGarry

William J. McGarry, 71, passed away on April 17, 2023, in his Exeter Twp. home.

He was the husband of Melanie G. (John) McGarry; they were married on May 12, 2011.

Born in Old Forge, he was a son of the late William and Cecelia (Ronchetti) McGarry.

He was a graduate of Old Forge High School in 1969.

Bill was a salesman for Moore Business Forms for over 20 years. Later he was co-owner and operator of Marty's Gun Shop, Douglassville. He also worked at Doehler-Jarvis, Inc., Stowe and retired from Cabela's in Hamburg in the guns and optics department.

He was an avid trap and skeet shooter, and hunter. He was a life member of Mohnton Fish & Game Club, and an active member of Cacoosing, Pikeville and Neversink Gun Clubs as well as the Reiffton Fire Company. Bill was the skeet shooting champion in Delaware and the PA rookie of the year.

Bill was full of life. He was gregarious and loyal. He was in the shooting sports from a young age, beginning as gun boy for Doc Alimenti at pigeon and trap shoots. His great eyesight, reflexes and superior hand eye coordination made him an excellent shot and hunter. Shooting and hunting were his favorite activities. In his later years he got into long range shooting. He loved food, drink and told a great story (over & over sometimes). He had a big heart and would often help neighbors and friends. Bill always said he lived a full life with no regrets. He will be missed by his wife, family and many friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two step-children, Mark (Christine) DeBlase, Birdsboro and Rachel (Josh) Stierly, Coventry and two grandchildren, Vivien Eve Stierly and Jacob Stierly.  There are two siblings, John David McGarry and Barbara Marion Metzger both of Old Forge. Many nieces and nephews also survive him.
