Obituary for Doris P. Zogas
Doris P. (PasYotis) Zogas, passed away August 25, 2016, in Reading Hospital.
She was the wife of Dr. Gust Zogas, President Emeritus of RCCC, whom she married July 29, 1956.
Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Frances (Vogel) PasYotis.
She was a graduate of Reading High School in 1949 and Kutztown State College, earning a degree in Elementary Education in 1953.
Doris was an elementary school teacher in the Reading School District for nearly 30 years; teaching at 5th & Spring, Thomas Ford, Lauers Park, and Riverside.
She was a well known artist in Stone Harbor and Avalon, New Jersey. Her love of painting was sparked after attending a watercolor workshop while vacationing in Stone Harbor, New Jersey in 1978. After retiring as a teacher she devoted much of her time to painting and developing a series of limited edition prints of her beloved shore towns. Doris loved the sea and found her inspiration in its beauty. Although she was best known for her paintings of the Jersey shore, she also enjoyed painting florals and landscapes. During the summer season Doris exhibited her work at several art and craft shows in the Stone Harbor-Avalon area. Her work can be found in private and corporate collections throughout the country.
She was a member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church where she was a longtime volunteer at the annual bazaar.
Doris loved the beach, travel (New England, Europe, Mexico and Florida), painting, and most importantly her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, Thomas, husband of Linda Zogas, Lower Heidelberg Twp.; Chrissada, wife of Kevin Caruso, Wyomissing; and Elaynee, wife of Blaise Polentes, Bethlehem. There is one sister, Leda, wife of Dr. Robert Bowers, Lower Alsace Twp. Six grandchildren, Elise, Chloe, Alexander, Brian, Jack and Natasha also survive her.
Services will be Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at 11 a.m. in Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1001 E. Wyomissing Blvd., Reading, PA 19611, with burial to follow in Charles Evans Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Gust and Doris Zogas Scholarship Fund at Reading Area Community College, 10 South 2nd Street, Reading, PA 19603, or The Goggle Works Center for the Arts at 201 Washington Street, Reading, PA 19601, or Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church at the above address.
