Obituary for Phyllis A. Palm

Phyllis A. Palm
Phyllis Ann (Schlachter) Palm, 69, of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, died on May 24, 2017 comforted by her husband of nearly 50 years, Martin A. Palm, Sr.

Born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, on October 14, 1947 to George E. and Julia F. (Ackalusky) Schlachter, Sr., Phyllis grew up in Reading, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Reading Central Catholic High School.

Phyllis was a loving wife, mother and Nanny who raised two incredible sons and welcomed two daughters(-in-law) into her family with open arms. She adored her grandchildren and beamed with joy each time she saw them. Phyllis dedicated her life to her family, planning beach vacations, touring casinos up and down the Atlantic coast and always making sure an occasion wasn't complete until her famous cheesecake was served.

While a fair-weather fan, Phyllis spent many summer weekends camping and boating in North East, Maryland, with extended family and friends and attended numerous football, baseball and basketball games and gymnastics meets for her sons and grandchildren.

Phyllis worked over a decade at Sandi Salads and then retired from Penn State Berks after 16 years of teaching fledgeling freshmen about responsibility and independence.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania; two sons, Martin A. (Rebecca) Palm of Danville, Pennsylvania, and Matthew L. (Elizabeth) Palm of Westminster, Maryland; brother-in-law, James C. Palm of Oley, Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren: Ryan Palm, Kevin Palm, Addelyn Palm and Samantha Palm.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Joan M. (Schlachter) and Quin Federici; and brother and sister-in-law, George E. and Carol S. (Palm) Schlachter, Jr.

A brief ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Indiantown Gap Road, Annville, PA 17003. There is no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Arthritis Foundation (www.arthritis.org) or to your favorite casino accompanied by a toast in her name. Edward J.
