Bette J.  Borkey
Bette J. “Nana” Borkey, 89, passed away December 8, 2017, in the Heritage of Green Hills after a 3 year courageous battle with cancer.

She was the beloved wife of Eugene H. Borkey, with whom she celebrated 65 years of wedded bliss on September 27, 2017.

Born in Auburn, Pa, she was the daughter of the late Earl J. and Iva A. (Driesbach) Mengel.

Bette was a 1946 graduate of Auburn High School and 1949 graduate of Jefferson Medical College Hospital School of Nursing.

She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Shillington and served on Altar Guild and Pastoral Care Team.

Bette was employed as a nurse for the Reading Hospital and Medical Center for 40 years until her retirement in 1992. During her employment, she worked for Dr. Chamberlain in Radiology and was part of the faculty with the Reading Hospital School of Nursing.

She and her husband, were long time members of Heidelberg Country Club, where they enjoyed meeting up with her friends. Bette enjoyed going to the beach in Avalon and most importantly loved spending time with her family, especially her grandson.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her very dear Kathy, wife of Mark Brown, Exeter Township; brother, Russel Mengel, Pottsville; niece, Rochelle, wife of Joseph Evanousky; four nephews, Edwin Borkey, James Borkey, Thomas Borkey and Neal Borkey Jr.; and grandson, Austin E. Brown.

Services will be held, Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 1 p.m. in Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 30 Liberty St, Shillington, PA 19607. Viewing will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
