Obituary for Norman B. Schmidt
Norman B. Schmidt, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 2, 2018, at ManorCare Health Services, Laureldale. Born in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Norman and Wilma (Wagler) Schmidt. He was married to Joanne (Geisewite) Schmidt, and they were set to celebrate 15 years of marriage on July 3.
Norman was a 1954 graduate of Washington-Lee High School and earned his bachelor of science degree in Metallurgy from Cornell University. He spent over 40 years as a metallurgist at Carpenter Technology, which gave him the opportunity to travel the world.
A Penn State Master Gardener, Norman was a former member and past president of the Northeast Reading Rotary. He was a train collector for over 60 years, and was a member of the Train Collector’s Association since 1967.
Norman was a faithful member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Mohnton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Tamara Schmidt, Worthington, OH; Michael Schmidt, Tempe, AZ; and Bradley Schmidt, Tallahassee, FL; and four grandchildren. Norman is also survived by his sisters: Lynne, wife of Harry Lilly, Arlington, VA; and Marlene, wife of Spencer Robbins, Fairfax, VA.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3893 Adler Place, Ste 170, Bethlehem, PA 18017 or online at donate3.cancer.org.
