Obituary for Elizabeth Barbara Kostrab

Elizabeth "Bette" B. Kostrab, 92, passed away peacefully in her Shillington home during the early hours of Monday, December 14, 2020. She was the loving widow of John F. Kostrab, who passed away in 1978. Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Dominic and Anna (Fedorczak) Chernyl.

Bette was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and sister. The highlight of her life was spending time with her family and friends. A very social woman, Bette enjoyed going to bingo, playing cards, and taking trips with her family and friends. She also enjoyed her time at the senior center.

Bette graduated from G.A.R. Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre.

She was a member of St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church, Mohnton.

After her husband John's passing, Bette took a position with Boscov's as a sales clerk, a position that she happily held for over 30 years, finally retiring after her 80th birthday.

Bette will be remembered by her children: Charlotte Thiry, wife of Thomas Thiry, of Stevens; Maureen J. Odenwelder, wife of W. Daniel Odenwelder, of Shillington; and John "Jack" R. Kostrab of Shillington; her grandchildren: Jason Thiry, husband of Becky Thiry; Joel Thiry, husband of April Thiry; John Odenwelder; and Heather Oldenwelder; her great grandchildren Emily and Bryson Thiry, Saige and Iris Thiry; and her brother, Theodore "Teddy" Chernyl, husband of Jean Chernyl, of Wilkes-Barre.

In addition to her husband and parents, Bette was predeceased by her siblings, Timothy, Joseph, Anna Wanat, and Edward.

Contributions in Bette's memory may be offered to the Arthritis Foundation, 1355 Peachtree St NE Suite 600
Atlanta, GA 30309, or to St. Benedict's R.C.C., 2020 Chestnut Hill Rd. Mohnton, PA 1954
