Obituary for Virginia G. "Ginny" Auchter (Geisinger)

Virginia G. "Ginny" Auchter (Geisinger)
Virginia G. “Ginny” (Geisinger) Auchter, 91, formerly of West Reading, passed away peacefully Friday, March 16, 2018, at Phoebe Berks Health Care Center, Wernersville, following a lengthy illness. Born May 20, 1926 in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Russell H. and Anna M. (Rickert) Geisinger. She was the widow of Raymond P. Auchter, Sr., who died in 1998, and they celebrated 44 years of marriage together.

A 1944 graduate of Reading High School, Ginny worked for nine years as a switchboard operator at Reading Tube Corporation, before becoming a teller for 16 years at Bank of Pennsylvania, retiring in 1988. When not working, she served her community as a dedicated member of the West Reading Hospital Auxiliary and of the West Reading Dance Committee for many years. She was a faithful member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Reading.

Above all else, family was what Ginny lived for, and she relished the role of Mom-Mom to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She especially cherished summer vacations with them in the Poconos and at the Beach.

Ginny is survived by her children: daughter Karen L. Derr, wife of Michael of Mohnton, and son Raymond P. Auchter, Jr., husband of Sandra (Einsel) of Lower Heidelberg Township. She adored her four grandchildren: Matthew Derr, husband of Christine (Auchter); Kristen (Derr) Hart, wife of Timothy; Amy (Auchter) Lied, wife of Steven; and Scott Auchter; and her five great grandchildren: Evan and Isaac Derr; and Ayden, Brody and Candace Hart.

Ginny is also survived by her sister Iola M. Geisinger, Shillington, and her brother Ira R. Geisinger, Indianapolis, IN. She was predeceased by a great grandson Asher Ray Lied, and her brothers Frederick and Bruce Geisinger.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 23, at 11:00am at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, with viewings Thursday evening, March 22, from 5:30-7pm, and Friday morning from 10:00 until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale.

Although flowers are welcome, donations in Ginny’s honor may also be made to Phoebe Berks, 1 Reading Avenue, Wernersville, PA 19565, or the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, 237 Court Street, Reading, PA 19601.
